Considering the image of The Palm…it is Blurred; Hazy outlines and Muted shapes; filing along, a following crowd; directed by the wind.
Fickle, crowds are. Following them leads us to nowhere. Our propensity, though, is to spend enormous amounts of our time, talent and energy milling about in the throngs of ‘crowd.’ Are we, too, one of the blurred, hazy outlines of muted shape unsure of purpose or path?
Have we given close attention? Have we searched through carefully to find focus? One must look diligently, but of all that is here, there is one that is steadfast. Set apart; not of the crowd, but the stand out from the crowd… focused and fulfilling of purpose. It is the one illuminated by light.
How much we are like the frons, fluttering along with the crowd seeking our true self. Considering that, we are faced with contradiction; one cannot find their own individual uniqueness in blurred, hazy, muted outlines of others. To search and look carefully for that which is missing or lost, we may discover it is indeed our own self; lost in the whirlwind of ‘crowd.’
The Palm image is reminder of that first Palm Sunday in Jerusalem; of the crowd of whom we would come to learn is a fickle crowd; blur of hazy outlined, muted shapes; out of focus. Coursed merely by a whirlwind the blur is self-deceiving in thought, purpose, actions. And of Jesus, the one in the entire scene, who, riding in on a donkey, is steadfast and in focus…on His Father’s will.
Let us not flutter through this Easter season, but rather look earnestly for that which is steadfast; the One place of clarity; there, where the Light shines. It is here, in presence, in stillness and in humble oneness that we find the Savior; our Lord, our God, our Creator; He, who knows us because He made us. Here is the comfort, purpose, direction and fulfillment that we long for. Only at this point of focus can we come to know our Creator and become the person we are meant to be. Oh the places we will go and the amazing insights we will discover.
